I am Dayna

A smart designer with a penchant for stupid

I am Dayna

I am a small but passionate designer whose work focuses on products and experiences to create a positive impact on the world.  Observation, research and iteration are all key to my process.

I love thinking playfully and I am a natural problem solver. I also am a strong storyteller and a valued team member. My personal interests are diverse, and range from space exploration to fashion to food anthropology to new tech. As such, doing traditional and design research is a strength for me.

I believe that causing a little change in many lives and communities can have a great effect, and I believe that good design is honest. I chose to dedicate my life to design because I like believing that the world can be better and greater. I am interested in gaining additional knowledge and experience in industrial design, UX design and design strategy. I am also usually interested in doing work that is weird or fun.

I have had my work featured in Fast Company web and print magazine, Wired, Dubai Design Week Global Grad Show (Top 10 in show!)Core77, YankoDesign, Engadget and MocoLoco.

I am always looking for new challenges, partnerships with clients and inspiring people to work with. Like my work or want me to work for you? Let me know! I love that.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON, Canada, and I went on to pursue my Masters of Industrial Design from the Pratt Institute (New York, USA). As a part of my Masters program, I completed the Global Innovation Design Program where I spent time at Keio University’s Keio Media Design (KMD), in Tokyo, Japan and in the Innovation Design Engineering Program (IDE), a joint program between the Royal College of Art and Imperial College in London, England. I’m currently looking for new opportunities and experiences in cross-disciplinary and relevant design that pushes boundaries.

In the past I have put up an art installation in the middle of a public street, and I have chopped off all of my hair twice to donate it to non-for-profits to make wigs for locals with cancer. I have also been part of a 1st place winning team for for sustainable architecture, and have worked as the Mechanical Systems Manager for the Queen’s University Solar Design Team. I’ve built a violin before and have climbed Mount Fuji. I used to have a dark room in my parents’ basement and I collect out-of-print children’s fairy tale books. I have worked for Team Ontario, one of 20 teams in the world to compete in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, and have done a ton of sewing in my youth.

I like pushing boundaries and pushing myself with the projects I choose to pursue, and I enjoy any kind of storytelling. I also love inspiring others, doing side projects and really good ice cream.

Nice to meet you!
